Level 3 Award in Education and Training
Many people looking to take on a teaching role find the Level 3 Award in Education and Training a good entry point.
Who is the Level 3 Award in Education and Training for?
It’s for people who would like to work, or currently work, in the further education and skills sector, for example Further Education (FE) Colleges; Independent Training Providers, and/or Local Authorities.
You do not have to be currently teaching or training, as this qualification does not require practice other than the microteaching contained within. It may also be useful for people already teaching especially those new to the industry. People working as Assessors might want to achieve the Level 3 Award in Education and Training to broaden their opportunities.
Some people working in the close protection industry seek the Level 3 Award in Education and Training as part of their development as a team leader.
Structure of the course
The qualification is broken down into three units, all of which must be completed. The Total Qualification Time (TQT) is 120 hours. This is made up of Guided Learning Hours [time spent with a trainer] and time that the learner is likely to be spend in preparation, study and assessment, for example in pre-course reading. The Guided Learning Hours- what might be called face-to-face training, element is typically four to five days.
Content of the course
Unit 1- Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.
In this unit, the learner will:
- Understand the teaching role and responsibilities in education and training;
- Understand ways to maintain a safe and supporting learning environment;
- Understand the relationships between teachers and other professionals in education and training.
Unit 2- Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training.
In this unit, the learner will:
- Understand inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training;
- Understand ways to create an inclusive teaching and learning environment;
- Be able to plan inclusive teaching and learning;
- Be able to deliver inclusive teaching and learning;
- Be able to evaluate the delivery of inclusive teaching and learning.
Unit 3- Understanding assessment in education and training.
In this unit, the learner will:
- Understand types and methods of assessment used in education and training;
- Understand how to involve learners and others in the assessment process;
- Understand the role and use of constructive feedback in the assessment process;
- Understand requirements for keeping records of assessment in education and training.
