International Trauma Course/SAFE MEd
When people operate far from immediate medical support, the first minutes after an injury or illness matter.
Whether working internationally, travelling into remote areas, operating in hostile environments, or managing teams overseas, organisations increasingly need personnel capable of providing immediate and effective medical care under difficult conditions.
Lazarus Training’s International Trauma Course (ITC) was originally developed for government personnel deploying into higher-risk environments, often remote from definitive medical care.
Written by medical personnel with operational experience in hostile and austere environments, the course has since been adapted for a wider range of organisations and international travellers requiring practical, realistic medical training.
The course has also been independently audited and found to exceed the medical elements of UK Government SAFE training courses.
Built for Difficult Environments
Providing medical care overseas is rarely straightforward.
Poor infrastructure. Delayed evacuation. Environmental extremes. Limited equipment. Language barriers. Fatigue. Security concerns.
Even relatively minor injuries can quickly become serious when access to professional medical care is delayed.
This course prepares delegates for these realities through highly practical, scenario-based training focused on confident decision-making in challenging environments.
Practical, Scenario-Led Training
Lazarus Training specialises in immersive and realistic training.
Delegates are required to solve problems, manage casualties, communicate effectively, and make practical decisions under pressure.
Training may include:
- Remote casualty management
- Major bleeding and trauma care
- Casualty movement and handling
- Road traffic collision response
- Ballistic and blast injuries
- Environmental and climatic illness
- Delayed evacuation scenarios
- Triage and prioritisation
- Head, chest and spinal injury management
- Eye injuries
- Working with limited resources
- Improvised medical solutions
Scenarios are adapted to reflect the operational environment of the client or organisation.
More Than Standard First Aid
The International Trauma Course includes the full HSE Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus, but extends significantly beyond conventional workplace first aid training.
The focus is not simply on passing assessments.
The focus is on building confidence, adaptability, and practical capability in environments where help may be delayed or limited.
Delegates learn how to:
- Assess situations dynamically
- Prioritise treatment under pressure
- Work with minimal equipment
- Manage casualties for longer periods
- Support evacuation and extraction decisions
- Function effectively as part of a small team

Realistic Training. Real Confidence.
Our training philosophy is simple:
People remember what they practise.
Courses use practical exercises, casualty simulation, role players, and realistic problem-solving to build genuine confidence rather than classroom familiarity.
This is medical training designed for real-world environments — not ideal conditions.
