This course meets the paediatric first aid requirements in the “Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework for Childminders”, effective from 4 January 2024.

What do you cover?
The delegates receive instruction in:
- Assessing an emergency and prioritising what action to take;
- Communication with the emergency services;
- Helping a baby/child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally;
- How to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation [baby/child/adult];
- First aid for the unconscious casualty [baby/child/adult];
- First aid for the wounded or bleeding;
- Helping a baby/child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic shock);
- Choking [baby/child/adult];
- Head injuries;
- Dealing with foreign bodies in the eye, ear and nose;
- Helping a baby/child with a bite or sting;
- Problems caused by extremes of temperature;
- Medical conditions such as Asthma, Meningitis or febrile convulsions;
- Anaphylactic shock;
- Caring for the unwell child;
- Basic record keeping.
