First Aid at Work certificates issued for workplace first-aid purposes are valid for three years. Employers need to arrange appropriate training before certificates expire if the employees are to continue acting as qualified workplace first aiders.

A practical requalification experience
Requalification should be more than a rapid repeat of familiar slides. Participants need opportunities to demonstrate that they can assess a casualty, make safe decisions, communicate effectively and provide appropriate first aid.
Our courses use practical activity and structured scenarios. Where appropriate and agreed, trained role players may portray casualties, allowing participants to work with realistic behaviour and symptoms. The atmosphere remains supportive: the purpose is to refresh capability, identify learning points and help experienced first aiders respond with renewed confidence.

Check eligibility before booking
Please provide the current qualification details and expiry dates when enquiring. HSE guidance states that a first aider whose certificate has expired is no longer considered competent to act as a workplace first aider. Current guidance allows requalification after expiry, but indicates that completion of the full three-day course may be prudent where a considerable period—identified by HSE as more than one month—has elapsed.
The employer must decide the most appropriate route. If certificates have already expired, contact us before booking so that we can discuss the available course options and avoid placing delegates on an unsuitable event.
Do not wait until the expiry month
For a large workforce, relying on last-minute reminders can create avoidable pressure. Employees may be unavailable on the only suitable dates, while hybrid working and leave can make it harder to assemble a complete group.
We recommend reviewing expiry information well in advance, allowing time to select delegates, reserve dates and deal with non-attendance. Organisations with a continuing requirement can schedule requalification alongside courses for new first aiders.

The London venue must offer privacy, suitable seating and adequate clear floor space for practical assessment and activity. We will confirm timings, access and room requirements before the course.
